High Interest Day Reminders

Parents:
  • If you signed up to help for this fun and exciting day, please arrive at Mitchell by 8:30am and check in at the front table.  If you know of any other adults that would like to help, please feel free to bring them along... the more the merrier!
  • Lunch will be provided and served by your Mitchell PTA, so please make sure to come to the field house during lunch to relax and chat with one another. :)
Students:
  • Please be on your BEST BEHAVIOR!  This is a very busy and fun day and we want everyone to enjoy this experience. :)
  • Students who signed up for the T-Shirt Bag Session.  Please make sure to bring in a t-shirt on Friday.  The larger the shirt, the larger the bag and if your shirt has a design/logo on it, that's perfectly fine.
    • (Students from my class signed up are the following: Latisa, Samantha, Gabby, Dayzia, and Brandon)
  • Please wear comfortable clothes/shoes and dress appropriately for the weather.
Parents and Students:
  • Due to High Interest Day, Friday is cold lunch day for the students. The students can either bring a bag lunch from home or order a bag lunch from school.

High Interest Day

High Interest Day will be on Friday, May 24.  For those of you who have never heard of or participated in High Interest Day before, it is a whole day event dedicated to students choosing activities that most interest them.  Basketball, a Smoothie Station, Mani/Pedi Station, Archery, and Dodgeball are among some of the most popular activities to choose from.  Each student from grades 2-5 participate and pick 5 activity stations to go to through out the day.  Ask your student what activities they signed up for.

"Dig Into Reading" at the West Allis Public Library

This summer, the WA Public Library will have a summer reading program for children ages 3-11. Children 12 and up are encouraged to participate in the teen summer reading program. Students can register anytime between June 3 - August 9th. The program runs from June 3rd through August 24th. There are many opportunities to earn prizes and tickets to local events. This is an excellent way to keep students reading this summer. A large blue flyer went home last week. Happy reading!

Fluency in Multiplication Facts

As we begin work with the Algebra Unit, we are finding that all students have shown the ability to pick up the new skills. However, knowledge and quick recall of multiplication facts is key to student success. Without fluency in multiplication facts, student accuracy will not be at a proficient level. Please ensure that your child works with these facts nightly, if they struggle with recall of multiplication facts. There are multiple ways to practice multiplication facts:
Thanks for your ongoing support at home!

Math Update

We will be structuring the final math unit differently than the previous units. Instead of splitting students between the four classrooms, students in Mr. Krupar's class and my class will be team taught by Mr. Krupar and myself. We will still analyze data from pretests and MAPS tests to establish an understanding of student background knowledge - this will not change. In addition, students will still work through the various stages of Math Daily 5.
