Mitchell Tech Survey

Hello Mitchell Families!

Please take a moment to take the survey. Also Mitchell staff would like you to be aware that there is no parking on the South Side of Montana from 7:30 to 4:30. If you are picking up your child from SAFE please park west of the Reserved Parking area by the 4th/5th grade doors. It is important to follow these guidelines because we have several busses that pick up students directly in front of our school everyday and sometimes they run late. After 4:30 the South side is open for parking.
Thanks for your help!

Mr. Hill

A Message from Mr. Hill

The cold weather is fast approaching. We ask parents to dress their youngster as warmly as possible prior to their leaving for school. Even though some children ride the bus to school, they still will be spending a considerable amount of time outdoors on the playground, particularly during the noon hour. Our school district policy states that when it is not raining or when the temperature is 10 degrees or above, pupils are not permitted into the building until the usual time of 8:25 AM (unless they are having breakfast) and 12:45 PM for 4K so be sure to dress your youngster for our Wisconsin winters. On rainy days or when the temperature is below 10 degrees, pupils are permitted to enter the building at 8:15 AM and will spend the noon hour indoors. A red flag will be placed on the doors indicating early entrance due to inclement weather. Please be sure your child has a hat and a pair of mittens. PLEASE LABEL THEIR ITEMS SO IT’S EASIER TO RETURN IF THEY ARE LOST.

Camp Upham Fundraiser Reminder

Here is a reminder for 5th grade parents that the Camp Upham Fundraiser order forms and money are due this Tuesday, December 4th.

General Mitchell Giving Tree

General Mitchell's annual Giving Tree will be beginning Monday, December 3rd.  A red flyer was sent home today with all of the necessary information on it.  December 17th is the day all gifts need to be turned into the office, if you decide to participate.

New Math Unit: Fractions

Starting on Monday, students will begin their work on the Numbers and Operations - Fractions Unit. With the beginning of a new unit, students are regrouped based on their understanding of the topic. Using the results from their fall MAPS test, we will create new groups to ensure that instruction is delivered to each student at their instructional level. In some cases, students will be working with a different teacher. It is common for students to work with multiple teachers throughout the year. As with any topic or skill, there are areas of strength and areas of weakness. We will assure your student that the changes are made to give them the best opportunity for growth.

Golden Awards!

At today's Fish meeting, our class won THREE Golden Awards!  We won awards for great positive behavior in SEL, Gym, and the Lunchroom.  Plus to top it off our class lead the Fish meeting in front of the whole school.  Students from the class volunteered to do speaking parts throughout the meeting.  Everyone did such a nice job, and I have heard from many teachers how great they thought they did.  I just wanted to let you know what amazing children you all have, and I am very thankful for having such a wonderful class! :)

School Sickness

I just wanted to inform you that there has been a "bug" going around school since last week.  Many students in the school have become sick with flu-like symptoms including vomiting.  Last Thursday, 40 students were home or sent home due to this illness.  I just wanted to inform you in case your student has or had these symptoms.  Our classroom has had a total of 5 students with the "bug," and hopefully it doesn't spread to any more students due to a lot of hand washing and sanitizing the room.

Reading "Just Right" Books

In our class, we talk a lot about reading "just right" books.  You may be wondering, what are "just right" books.  These are books that are at your student's reading level; they aren't too easy or too hard.  Well now there is a website that allows you to check to see if the book your student is reading is at their level.  The link is apart of Schloastic and it is called "Book Wizard."  All you have to do is type in the book your student is reading and it will pop up with grade interest level, guided reading level, and lexile level.  When you receive your student's report card within the next week, your student's guided reading level will be on there.  I thought this was a great tool and hopefully you'll get some good information from it!

The website is... http://www.scholastic.com/bookwizard/

Enjoy!

WKCE Testing

WKCE testing is right around the corner.  As we get even closer, it is important to get students prepared for the test.  The 4th/5th grade teachers will be working on prepping the students for the test and getting them in test taking mode; however, we also do not want to make them nervous.  It is important that they just do their best.

Here are some ways you can help support your student at home:

-Express a positive attitude toward the test.

-Put the emphasis on effort as well as achievement.

-Ensure a good night’s rest.

-Provide a nutritious breakfast and a healthy snack.

-Ensure attendance on all test dates.

Students will also be allowed to bring gum or mints with them to school as long as they understand that it will only be chewed during the testing period.

Thank you for the support at home!

Halloween Party

On Wednesday, October 24, our class will be having a Halloween party at the end of the day.  Students are allowed to dress up in costume as long as there isn't blood and guts everywhere!  I have to start thinking of some costume ideas because I too will be dressing up.  :)

If you would like to volunteer to bring a treat or juice please let me know! It would be much appreciated! I look forward to seeing all of the creative costumes!

SEL Golden Award!

I am happy to announce that we received our third Golden Award this week!  This time our Golden Award was given to us by Mr. Taube, our SEL/Guidance teacher.  He explained at the Fish assembly that the reason we got this award was because our class was "being there for each other, choosing to be respectful and patient, and showing great maturity."  We are very excited to have received this award.  Keep up the good work ladies and gentlemen!
